Where does the band rehearse?
Typically, the band rehearses every Thursday from 7-9 pm through the summer.
When do rehearsals begin?
Rehearsals typically begin in May of each year.
When and where does the band perform?
The band performs through the summer, from late May to early August, in and around the Aurora and Fox Valley area of Northern Illinois. Our performances include parades, indoor concerts, and outdoor concerts.
How can I join the Band?
We encourage prospective members to bring their instruments and participate in a rehearsal, or just come and listen. At that time a section leader will meet with you to answer questions you may have and discuss member responsibilities, etc.

What is the Aurora American Legion Band?
The Roosevelt-Aurora Post No. 84 American Legion Band is a group of patriotic musicians who have a common goal – to make good music together and have fun doing it. Since 1937, the band has enabled musicians in Chicago’s western suburbs to continue their music education by performing challenging music in a relaxed setting. The band performs concerts and marches in parades throughout Northern Illinois.
One of the band’s strengths is its diversity, boasting student musicians, former high school players, former college players, music educators, and retirees among its membership. Can I book the Band for a concert or parade this summer?
Yes! Our current performance season is late May to early August, with few exceptions. We perform in the greater Aurora and Fox Valley area, indoor and outdoor concerts and parades, and are always looking for more opportunities to bring our music to the community. Can I book the Band during the fall, winter, or spring?
We typically do not rehearse or perform outside of our summer season. Please email us at info@auroralegionband.com or use the Contact Us page if you have an exciting opportunity for us to get together out-of-season. We’d be happy to discuss a special appearance.
How can I support the band?
Come to our concerts and bring guests! You can find our performance calendar here. We also have a tax-exempt fund through the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley, which accepts donations on our behalf. Donate or learn more on our fund’s page, cffrv.gives/legionband.
If I join the Band, will I have to march?
Marching is highly encouraged but optional. Marching in parades is part of the Band’s heritage, and we sound better the more marchers we have. If your instrument is not good for marching (bassoon, string bass, etc.) but you’d like to join us on the street, talk to your section leader about other options for parades or email us at info@auroralegionband.com.
